The Way Way Back

PeanutButterFalcon.jpg

Shy 14-year-old Duncan goes on summer vacation with his mother, her overbearing boyfriend, and her boyfriend's daughter. Having a rough time fitting in, Duncan finds an unexpected friend in Owen, manager of the Water Wizz water park.

This is one of my favorite coming-of-age movies (though it doesn't top Dirty Dancing). Duncan (Liam James) is an awkward kid in a tough situation. When he meets Owen (Sam Rockwell) his world really opens up and a change of environment gives him the chance to do the same. He has a really strong character arc. Sam Rockwell's character is an endearing role model – I absolutely love his character and this movie.
